Photographing a Naja siamensis, Indochinese Spitting Cobra on a herping trip in Thailand

In 2016, this website HerpingThailand.com came to life. We felt like we needed a platform to share more about our great passion for the amphibians and reptiles of Thailand. With our images of snakes and more we hope to get more people excited about the beauty of Thailand’s herps.

With HerpingThailand.com we plan to share more about our finds, trip reports, and other herping-related information, but also to create a photographic database with the reptile and amphibian species that occur in Thailand. Where most printed field guides are lacking, we intend to go further by showing sexual dimorphism, and close ups of specific features that help with the ID of a species. We might share location information, though in some cases we might choose not to share exact locations in fear of illegal collecting.

Herpetofauna diversity in Thailand

With 350+ reptiles and 170+ amphibians, we are realistic and know we will never be able to show you everything there is. But we will try to showcase as much as we can. We have loads of images in our archives, but spend more time herping in the field than behind our computer so it will slowly, but hopefully steadily grow.

Besides the information and photography, we will also be offering herping tours through this webpage. As a wildlife tour operator in Thailand we have been offering herping tours for quite quite some time before this website came to life – previously people found us through our Tontan Travel wildlife tours-website – but we intend to add more specialized herping tour packages on this page in the future.
