As a dedicated field herper it is hard not to get excited about the amazing herpetofauna diversity of Thailand. How cool is it to go herping in a country with charismatic species like the King Cobra and the Reticulated Python?
Thailand, the land where geckos, frogs, dragons, and even snakes can fly…
And one of the world’s largest and most beautiful geckos, the Tockay Gecko, can be found on nearly every building.
But at the same time Thailand is still not fully explored. Our find of the Many-banded Krait – the first record ever in Thailand – proofs this.
But not everything is perfect various species are endangered, like the Asian Forest Tortoise, and the Siamese Crocodile is even listed as critically endangered on the IUCN red list.
On the other hand certain species still thrive both in wild or even in urban areas.
Hopefully the dragons keep flying in Thailand for many years to come!
